Webinar: Beyond the Numbers: Understanding PTW and Pwin in Competitive Bidding

Beyond the Numbers: Understanding PTW and Pwin in Competitive Bidding
March 26, 2026 - 12 pm Eastern
Details:

PTW (Probability of Winning the Tender) and Pwin (Probability of Win) are often referenced in capture planning and pricing discussions, but they’re rarely understood or applied consistently.

In this practical, real-world session, Jon will break down what PTW and Pwin actually represent, how they differ, and why understanding both is critical to making smarter bid, pricing, and go/no-go decisions. Drawing from decades of hands-on experience in federal government contracting, Jon will explore how these concepts influence competitive positioning, pricing strategy, risk tolerance, and ultimately, profitability.

Attendees will walk away with a clearer framework for evaluating opportunities, aligning pricing with win strategy, and avoiding common pitfalls that lead to underpriced or misaligned bids. This session is especially valuable for proposal professionals, capture managers, pricing teams, and business leaders involved in competitive pursuits.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Distinguish between PTW and Pwin — and when to use each

  • Apply these concepts to bid/no-bid and pricing decisions

  • Balance competitiveness with margin and execution risk

  • Improve win probability without sacrificing long-term profitability

Presenter:
Jon Barker leads the pricing division of Strategic Growth Partners (SGP) following the integration of his firm, PTW Solutions in 2024. He brings more than two decades of experience in the federal government contracting (GovCon) industry, with deep expertise across pricing, contracts, proposal strategy, and program execution.

Over the course of his career, Jon has submitted and negotiated thousands of proposals and managed contracts totalling more than $5.5 billion in obligations. He has overseen portfolios exceeding $150M annually and is known for helping organizations pursue the right opportunities with pricing strategies that maximize both win probability and long-term profitability.

Jon is a subject-matter expert across the full procurement lifecycle, from market research and pre-award strategy through contract execution and closeout, and excels at defending pricing approaches that meet government “fair and reasonable” standards.

He is an active member of NCMA, APMP, and SCIP, serves on the Board of the NC NCMA Chapter, and mentors small businesses navigating the GovCon marketplace.

APMP Canada - Maple Leaf Chapter - UK Public Sector Bidding: Practical Insights for Canadian Proposal Professionals

UK Public Sector Bidding: Practical Insights for Canadian Proposal Professionals

Federal and public-sector procurement in Canada and the UK is grounded in similar principles: transparency, fairness, and value for money. But how those principles are applied in practice can vary in meaningful and strategic ways.

How are UK public sector bids structured and evaluated? What does “social value” really mean in scoring? And what practical techniques are bidders using to stand out in highly competitive frameworks and long-term procurement vehicles?

Join Matt Light (APMP UK), Director at AscellaHealth and Deputy CEO of APMP UK, for an inside look at the UK public sector bidding landscape—and what Canadian proposal professionals can learn and apply at home.

In this session, Matt will share practical insights into:

  • Evidence-led and outcome-based responses

  • The increasing role of social value in evaluations

  • Navigating framework agreements and long-term procurement vehicles

  • Techniques bidders use to differentiate in competitive environments

Designed specifically for Canadian bid and proposal professionals, this webinar will highlight transferable strategies and best practices you can apply to federal, provincial, and broader public sector opportunities.

If you’re looking to strengthen your proposal strategy, sharpen your compliance approach, and deliver more compelling, competitive bids, this session is for you.

Presenter: Matt Light (APMP UK)

With a 15-year career in high-performing bid functions spanning writer, manager, team leader, and director roles, Matt brings deep, hands-on expertise in UK public sector procurement. Drawing from real-world experience, he will provide actionable insights into evaluation methodologies, strategic positioning, and practical approaches that drive success in public-sector competitions.

Maple Leaf Chapter webinar - We’re thinking about bids and technology the wrong way!

APMP Canada - Maple Leaf Chapter has invited you to - We’re thinking about bids and technology the wrong way!

Details:

We’ve been thinking about bids and technology the wrong way. In the rush to generate and use content faster, we’ve completely missed the potential of tech to make us better. Because it’s not the fastest proposal that wins. It’s the best proposal.

We need to think bigger about technology in bids. Yes, AI can write proposal content but it needs a lot of help from us and still isn’t as good. Instead of using AI to help with what we’re already good at, let’s use it to provide expertise we don’t have, offer alternative points of view, challenge our thinking, and enrich our knowledge.

No product pitch. No disguised demo. Just a fresh perspective, some new ideas, and maybe even a little inspiration for your own technology use cases.

About the presenter:

Darrell Woodward is an award-winning consultant helping organisations put the fun back into proposals. As a Bid Geek and coffee lover, he believes technology in bids and proposals means combining the right blend of content beans – compelling narratives, tailored solutions, and persuasive arguments – and the expertise of bidding baristas to craft the perfect proposal brew. Technology isn’t about writing content faster; it’s about bidding better.

Webinar Thursday, June 12, 2025 - 12 pm Eastern/ 1 pm Atlantic, 9 am Pacifc, 10 am Mountain, 11 am Central

Details:
While Bid and Proposal Management can be a rewarding career, burnout rates and stress levels are very high within our profession. Often, it is the individual bid and proposal professionals that have to set themselves up for success when it comes to their mental health and wellbeing. During this interactive, virtual presentation, we will discuss how we can take control of prioritizing our life/work balance and encouraging a culture of support within our company to decrease the rate of burnout and handle how we deal with stress that is part of our jobs.

About the presenter:
Tori Bunk has 10 years of experience within the bid and proposal industry. Starting as a business development and capture intern during graduate school, she quickly found her passion for proposal management. Tori currently serves on APMP's International Board of Directors and helped to create APMP's Mental Health Affinity Group, which she currently co-chairs. Her commitment to changing the "standard" around mental health, burnout, and stress in the proposal industry has led her to become an advocate and speaker, by sharing her lived experiences. Outside of being a Proposal Manager, Tori enjoys spending time with cats, tending to her chickens, and spending time in her garden.

Webinar - It’s Not Always Sunshine and Lollipops: Communicating Challenges in Resumes and Proposals

Please register for APMP Canada - Maple Leaf Chapter webinar - It’s Not Always Sunshine and Lollipops: Communicating Challenges in Resumes and Proposals on Tuesday, October 24, 12:00 to 1:00 pm Eastern, 2:00 pm Atlantic, 10:00 AM Pacific, 11:00 Mountain.

Description: In most requests for proposals, the customer wants to know where the company has done similar work before (past performance) and what the company did that will help meet their requirements and objectives (relevant experience). When you’re applying for a new gig, companies want to know the same things about you. That’s the point of the resume and interview!

In the Experience Section, you can’t just skip over issues like missed deadlines, or poor performance, and as your career progresses, you can’t just skip over short stays, layoffs, or (shudder) a termination for performance.

To be effective, both the Experience Section and your resume need to reflect the lessons you’ve learned along the way, even if everything hasn’t been all “sunshine and lollipops”.

In this webinar, Mark Wigginton will talk about how to communicate the challenges you’ve overcome in your resume, and in an interview ... and maybe even talk a little about how to do the same in a proposal!

Presenter: Mark Wigginton markw@focusingonresults.com

The Why, When and How for Proposal Automation Software

APMP Canada - Maple Leaf Chapter - The Why, When and How for Proposal Automation Software was held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 12:00 PM  |  (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)  |  1 hr

Description:

APMP members are well aware of the challenges associated with creating winning proposals. While many proposal professionals recognize the potential benefits of proposal software, a surprising number of organizations have yet to implement such solutions. The reasons for this vary. Some organizations simply do not understand how to cost justify the solution, while others are overwhelmed by the vast array of proposal software options available on the market.

This is precisely why Jason Anderson from Expedience Software has offered to share his extensive knowledge of the proposal automation industry. As an experienced Proposal Manager, Jason has successfully advocated for the implementation of proposal software solutions in a variety of organizations. During this webinar, he will share his tried and tested process for doing so.

It is important to note that while Jason does work for a proposal software vendor, this presentation will not serve as a sales pitch for Expedience Software. Rather, attendees can expect to receive valuable insights and strategies for overcoming common obstacles associated with proposing and implementing proposal software solutions.

Register today to gain the knowledge and tools needed to successfully advocate for the implementation of proposal software solutions.
